Last Friday Martin and I met with our midwife for our first OB check-up. We got to hear the baby's heartbeat which is always oh so incredibly amazing and wonderful, and it always makes it more real that there really is a little person in there. We found out that our official due date is September 4. We met for our appointment in the house of our midwife, and both Martin and I commented about how much we appreciate the laid back home atmosphere of care as opposed to a sterile doctor's office. Our midwife care will be provided by Peggy Byler, who is a Certified Midwife, and Melanie Copeland - our pastor's wife. We're very excited about having a home birth!
In the past week I've definitely felt this little person moving around and making his/her presence known! I love those first movements - makes everything seem more real. I'm 15 weeks as of today. Supposedly the baby is about 4 inches long (the size of a regular Kit-Kat finger) and weighs about 2 and 1/2 ounces (about as much as an apple). Everything is going well so far, and we're very grateful.

huzzah for francis!!
Exciting! Tom used to complain about how the baby-in-utero size is always compared to some kind of food. :)Go, little Kit Kat Finger, go! Candice
"Number Nine" is how I think of her/him. Now doesn't that give you the warm fuzzies? Anonymous
