Elliot (22 months) is talking more and more these days, and it's so fun to hear all the words that come out of his mouth. And with his new language development, we can more easily tell how his mind is working - fascinating. Here are a few things that he has been saying and processing lately:
"Mamma shafe? Dadda shafe? Deezent (Vincent) shafe? Weechel (Rachel) shafe? Jess son (Jefferson) shafe? Nita shafe? Wash cof (washcloth) shafe? Duck shafe? (and on and on and on)" (This came about as a result of getting ahold of my razor and attempting to shave his cheek, (Martin will from time to time fake shave Elliot by turning his razor backwards while "shaving" his cheek) which consequently left a razor cut on his cheek. He now knows that razors are equivalent to knives in that they can bestow bodily harm!).
He's also learning to identify emotions, and when looking at books and pictures can sometimes pick out a sad or happy face, to which he asks "cwying?" And then the list of questions goes on and on and on..."Dadda cwying? Deezent cwying? Deetuck (Dietrich) cwying? cawsh (couch) cwy?....
He knows most of the colors, and he counts to about 10, as long as we repeat the numbers after he says them.
He also does this weird little thing with words, where he puts "uh" on the end of some words like "Elleeyutuh", "upeeuh" (up), "mommyuh", "bookuh", etc. Not sure where that came from.
Those are pretty much the new things that Elliot's doing. He loves doing just about anything. For example, this morning he did some finger painting, helped me wash dishes - he's getting good at carefully putting dishes from the counter into my sink, helped me make bread - by dumping the flour/yeast/sugar into the bowl and then stirring it all up with a rubber scraper, and hanging out wash - he hands me the clothes from the wash basket. A busy boy, and that's how he likes life, it seems.
Vincent (9 months this week) is figuring out how to crawl. He pretty much just scoots backwards on his belly. He is also babbling away, like "mmmbah", "ahbudah". He loves playing with anything that moves - like wheels on cars, balls (rolls them back and forth with us), anything with hinges, and toys that have flashing lights and noises (ergh...annoying). It's fun to go grocery shopping with him because he gets all excited and starts kicking his legs and waving his arms when carts approach us with their moving wheels!!! He also loves banging on the xylophone, and is amazingly good at it. He's getting so much more interactive/playful - he's been doing this for awhile but it cracks us up each time - he squeezes his eyes shut really tight and then opens them up and smiles really big and flirtatious-like and does this back and forth with us, claps his hands, and waves hi and bye. He's also standing against things - he isn't pulling himself up yet but likes to stand along the couch and play. He's a fun-loving little guy with a great belly laugh and cry (well, I'm not so sure about the "great cry" part, more just a deep loud belly cry).
By the way, I'm already getting the question "Are they twins?"!
