Sabbath Rest

This past Sunday afternoon we took a family outing to the Eno river for a hike and lunch. We just couldn't pass up the opportunity to revel in God's creation of a beautiful late summer day and so...

Pausing along the trail to watch the turtles sunbathe.

after 1/2 mile of hiking we reach Bobbit's Hole where we stop for a lunch of tuna salad, apples with peanut butter and cheez-its. Small fish cannibalize the tuna that we inadvertantly drop into the river.

a worn out hiker sleeps through the final bit of the trail

The rest of the afternoon we spent napping, reading Wendell Berry (Martin) and Flannery O'Connor (Sylvia), and enjoying each others company.

yes, in fact he rather enjoys Counter Culture Decaf. And for those of you who wonder why he goes down so early at night - No, we are not giving him liqour in the evenings.

Sylvia, I love Flannery O'Connor! When I read that, I had to go dig out my book of her short stories, and stick it at the head of my "books to (re)read" queue.

looks like a great time - all three of you are looking fabulous! that makes four things this blog makes me miss, being in barcelona: you three (four really, but none of us really know the little one enough to miss him/her yet), and nature (there's nature here, but it's mostly contained). love you!!
